Understand flow measurement input for a rate input having a volume counter

In the first step, the volume counter from the rate record is read. This value will be compared with two rate counters processed on prior cycles:

  • The previous counter, which is the counter from the previous processing.

  • The last good counter, which is the most recent counter that was validated. Typically, the last good counter is the same as the previous counter, but if the previous processing cycle failed to validate the new counter, the new counter will not have been saved as the last good counter. The last good counter will continue to show a prior value.
