Use Countdown to create and track GSV targets for Tanking

If the Administrator has configured your Tank as the source of one or more countdowncfg records, the Countdown section of the Control window may be used to create Gross Standard Volume (GSV) or Gross Observed Volume (GOV) targets and track progress to those targets. For instructions on how to select a countdowncfg record, create, and control targets for your tank record, refer to the table below.

Countdown is an external application that allows for the scheduling and controlling of targets and monitoring of progress to the active targets set against configured countdown sources. Specific fields and tables are supported as sources for the Countdown application.

With the Tanking application, Countdown takes into account the Tank Direction. It counts in the direction of the way the value is changing, since the Tank Direction can be Emptying or Filling. These values are reflected in the Progress and Remaining rows.

When the countdown starts, counts are not official until the Tank Direction is established. The criteria that is used to establish the Tank Direction is three consecutive deltas (changes) heading in the same direction. Once the Tank Direction information is established, the countdown doesn't perform any more directional checks. After this point, counts in the opposite direction will be subtracted from, rather than added to, the count. Given that the change is calculated for the expected Tank Direction, fluctuations in the tank level can cause valid negative deltas.

At this point, if the Tank Direction changes, the Countdown target will never be reached and the Countdown will begin to produce negative counts. For more information about Countdown, see Understand Countdown and the AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids Administrator Guide documentation.

The following table lists the fields and actions available in the Countdown section of the Tank Detail window.

Fields

Description

Countdown (text box and [...] box)

The text box contains the countdowncfg table record that has the configured parameters to be used for the target tracking. The countdowncfg record in use can be changed by selecting the (...) button to open the Countdowncfg Select dialog. Only those records already configured to be used by this tank record will be available in the Countdowncfg Select dialog.

Volume Target

The volume target of the current countdown. Depending on the target’s Absolute setting, this may be:

  • Volume relative to the current volume to be tracked.

  • An absolute volume target.

Remaining

Volume to go until the volume target is reached.

Time to Target

Estimated time to go until the target is reached.

State

State of the tracking session. There are five possible states:

  • Pending

  • Stopped

  • Active

  • Wait

  • Completed

Note: While it is technically a state, Completed is not displayed as a state on the Tank Detail window, as the current target will be displayed rather than the previously-completed target.

ETA

Estimated date and time that the target will be reached.

Stop

Stop will do the following:

  1. Change the Current Countdown from Active to Stopped.

  2. Stop the tracking.

  3. In the case of Full Automatic, will also complete the countdown. This button is unavailable if the current countdown state is not Active.

Note: Stopping a Countdown will reset the internal mechanism that tracks if an alarm has already been raised. When the Countdown is re-started, if the remaining volume / time is within the warning limits, an alarm will be raised again.

Ready

Select Ready to move the very first pending countdown to the current countdown position, with the Stopped state (applies to the Manual or Man Start/Auto Stop Countdown Type) or the Wait state (applies to the Full Automatic Countdown Type). Once a current countdown exists, this function is disabled.

Control

Select Control to access the Countdown Control window. This will allow you to control the active volume target, view the previous volume target, create new scheduled volume targets, and modify scheduled volume targets.

In addition, it is possible to make other configuration changes for the selected countdown configuration.

Create

Select Create to set a new volume target.

Note: This schedules a future target to be used. It does not replace the current target.

Start

Start will change the current countdown state from Stopped to Active, starting or re-starting (Progress will reset to zero) the tracking. This function is unavailable if the current countdown state is not Stopped.

Complete

Complete will move tracking to the next scheduled target by changing the current countdown state from Stopped to Complete, making it the previous countdown, and changing the next pending countdown state to Stopped, making it the current countdown. This function is disabled if the Countdown Type is Full Automatic or the current countdown state is not Stopped, or if there is no pending countdown remaining.
