To successfully operate the Virtual Flow Computer (VFC), you must configure the following in the Advanced Database Editor (ADE).

The ADE will allow you to create records to represent physical devices in the field (also known as accumulators). These representations of physical devices appear on the Summary and Control windows in the easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS). In order for the Controller to be successful, you must complete the following:

For each accumulator:

  • For linear meters, there is an associated rate table in ADE located under View > Realtime. The rate table is the standard AVEVA Enterprise SCADA table used to configure how often information is sought from the device that provides rate- and counter-type data.

Note: A rate input configured as Analog does not require specific configuration.

    • A rate input configured as Pulse requires the following configuration:

      • The Rollover value of the rate record should be configured to match the physical rollover value from the field device.

      • The Time between rate calculations (sec) setting should be equal to or greater than the RTU Poll Delay configuration on the remote record. Increasing the Time between rate calculations (sec) value will reduce flow rate fluctuations.

    • A rate input configured as Pulse&Analog requires the following configuration:

      • The Rollover value of the rate record should be configured to match the physical rollover value from the field device.

      • (Optional) For all types of rate input, the Max Reasonable Flow Rate (vol/h) setting should be configured on the accumulator record, as it is used to detect anomalous volume readings.

  • For orifice meters sourced by an analog, there is an associated analog table in ADE located under View > RealTime. The analog table is the standard AVEVA Enterprise SCADA table used to configure how often information is sought from the device that provides a measured numerical value.

  • To access the Virtual Flow Computer (virtualflowcomputer) table in ADE, navigate to View > LMS. The virtualflowcomputer table belongs to the VFC application in AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids. The accumulator records are considered children of the virtualflowcomputer record. The data from the accumulator records is summarized in the virtualflowcomputer record. The summarized data includes a Gross Standard Volume (GSV) corrected total volume counter.

  • For linear meters and orifice meters sourced by a rate, the accumulator table is linked to the rate record. The information about the physical device that is collected by the rate record and any further processing that is performed on the information provided by the rate record, primarily the volume counter, is stored in the accumulator table.

  • For orifice meters sourced by an analog, the accumulator table is linked to the analog record. The information about the physical device that is collected by the analog record and any further processing that is performed on the information provided by the analog rate, primarily the differential pressure reading, is stored on the accumulator table.

  • Internally, the VFC application rolls over the GSV, Gross Volume (GV), Indicated Volume (IV), and mass counters that it maintains for the VFC and accumulator at the maximum value of a double.
