A level from the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is provided as either a height or a volume. The tank processor subscribes to updates to this either as provided directly from the polling engine or when updated in the analog or rtstring table. Using the polled level, the equivalent height or volume is found by a lookup and interpolation from the strapping table.

A volume determined by the strapping table lookup without any corrections applied is referred to as Total Observed Volume (TOV).

Note: This process is skipped if a volume is polled from the RTU instead of height. In this case, the volume provided is a Gross Observed Volume (GOV) (corrected for floating roof effects) or a Gross Standard Volume (GSV) (corrected for temperature as well as floating roof effects).
