Doubling plate

A doubling plate is an additional plate associated with a panel. It is used to introduce additional material in specific areas of a panel such as holes, notches and closed curves. The doubling plate geometry is defined based on the existing geometry of these elements. Changes to the referenced element are reflected in the doubling plate, so that their deletion triggers a warning.

You can apply a closed doubling plate, an insert doubling plate, or a combination of both. You can change them during Doubling plate creation or by using the property grid. For more information, refer to Doubling Plate function in Hull Design.

Closed plate

A closed doubling plate is a plate that covers the referenced geometry.

Insert Plate

An insert doubling plate is a plate that is placed inside an existing hole or notch (not supported for curves). It aligns with the surrounding plate surface.

During creation of the doubling plate or by using the property grid you can define or modify an inner or outer offset for the doubling plate.

Inner Offset

The inner offset (i) specifies the distance from the selected reference element to the inner edge of the doubling plate and controls whether the plate extends inward or outward relative to that reference.

Outer Offset

The outer offset (o) specifies the distance from the selected reference element to the outer edge of the doubling plate and defines the overall extent of the plate.
