Set Result to an Expression

You can set a rule's result to an expression instead of a fixed value. The system evaluates the expression when the rule completes successfully.

This option is available for rules with any RLSET PURP except ANSP, ANSC, and ANSH. For those Rule Based Supports (RBS) rules, the menu option instead appears as Set Result to Ancillary. See Set Result to Ancillary for more information.

Set result to an expression

1. In the Rule Manager window, under Logical Expressions, right click inside a row where the result can be defined.

   The following menu appears:

   

2. Select Set Result to Expression.

   The Set Expression in the result window opens:

   

   If the rule already has a result defined, it appears in the Expression box.

3. Press Backspace to clear the Expression box, then enter the desired expression.

   For example, on a template joint, you can enter the expression (RPRO WIDT OF OWNER) to return the Width of the owning GENSEC.

4. Select Apply.

   The expression is set as the result and appears in the Result column of the selected row.
