Rule Based Supports (RBS)

Enhances support creation and modification by applying automated rules, filtering options, and performing post‑processing steps on behalf of the user. When RBS is enabled, only RBS‑compatible options are shown, and additional automated behaviors for support creation and modification occur.

The application creates the RBS support with default orientation options. These defaults control crossbar clearance, automatic cutback of support legs on plate surfaces, and support leg orientation. For details on viewing or modifying these defaults, see Application Defaults.

Select Rule Based in the Tools group enable or disable RBS at any time during support creation or modification.

When you enable RBS Mode, the system activates the RBS workflow. See Rule Based Supports Workflow for more information.

A filter is applied to the list of available framework types and displays only framework types compatible with the RBS workflow in the Multi Discipline Frameworks section:

Support creation enhancements

The following enhancements and automations are applied during support creation:

  • Multi-picking: Select multiple pipes sequentially before moving to the next step. Pipes can also be preselected before choosing a frame type.

  • Rule-based ancillary selection: The Ancillary Selection window does not appear because ancillary selection is automated based on rules.

  • Crossbar configuration: Crossbars are added automatically when requirements are met.

  • Automatic plate selection: Compensating plates or packer plates are automatically applied when conditions are met.

  • Support positioning: Supports are pre-positioned relative to the selected element using an intermediate form before the support is created.

  • Support validation: A health check runs automatically after the support is created. The window closes when the check is complete.

Support modification enhancements

When modifying existing supports, the system automatically rebuilds the supports after:

  • Adding or removing pipes associated with the support.

  • Any change in ancillary elevation that affects a crossbar, such as adjusting shoe height.
