Create a support using automated rules. See Rule Based Supports (RBS) for more information.

Create a rule based support

  1. With Rule Based enabled, select Framework, then select a frame type from the Multi Discipline Frameworks gallery.

The application only displays frameworks that meet rule criteria.

This selection determines how the rest of the workflow behaves.

  2. Select the pipe(s) for support.

If the frame type supports multi-pipe selection, you can select multiple pipes.

  3. Press Esc.

  4. Select the element(s) to build the support from in the 3D view.

  5. Select the datum pipe.

The system displays the support positioning window in red:

  6. Press Esc.

    The Support Positioning dialog opens:

In this dialog, you can adjust the support position using graphical aids and available positioning options.

Note: The support plane can only be positioned along the datum pipe axis.

    • Distance: Distance of pleave position of compref.

    • Nudge: Moves the plane position from its current position by the specified value.

    • Plane Size: Controls the graphical representation of plane size.

  7. (Optional) Select for more positioning options.

    The Positioning dialog opens:

Note: The only supported pick type is Element, which can be used in conjunction with Snap, Midpoint and Cursor. Selecting any other pick type or combination causes the following error to occur:

  8. Once you have made any necessary adjustments to the support position, select Apply.

The system creates the support and performs a health check.

If the health check fails or detects errors, the Support Editor window remains open so you can review and correct the configuration.

If the support passes validation, both the Support Editor window and the health checking dialog close, and the workflow is complete.
