Rule Set Reference

Many systems in the Rule Manager depend on the Rule Set Reference (RLSREF) attribute. This attribute provides a link between the evaluating element and a rule set. The Rule Set reference is not required for the Rule Manager, but it is recommended. Rules that are run without the reference are referred to as Special Case Rules. For more information, see Special Case Rules.

With the presence of the RLSREF attribute. the Rule Manager can find rules linked to an element, and check later that the set values haven’t deviated from the design intent.

For custom use, a User Defined Attribute (UDA) named :udaRlsref can be defined and allocated to an element to make available the same functionality as the RLSREF attribute.

When executing and reviewing rules, the Rules Engine searches for the first valid RLSREF attribute using the following priority:

  • RLSREF on the Specification Reference (SPRE) of the element.

  • RLSREF or :udaRlsref on the Catalogue Reference (CATR) of the element.

  • RLSREF on the Template Reference (TMPR) of the element.

  • RLSREF or :udaRlsref on the element itself.

  • (for Hull Design) RLSREF on the SPCREF of the ZONE in the owning hierarchy of the element.

Normally, an administrator sets up the rule set reference on catalogue items using Paragon.

Once a rule set is located, the system searches for Design Rule (DRULE) elements that have one of the following valid purposes:

  • ATTR: Attribute Rule. Sets the attribute indicated by the RULATT attribute on the DRULE.

  • DESP: Design Parameter Rule. Sets the Design Parameters indicated by the DKEYARRAY attribute on the DRULE.

For Template (TMPL) rulesets only:

  • SPRE: Specification Reference Rule. If associated with a template Design Data (DDAT), sets the Spref of an element in a Template. The DKEYARRAY can be set to the key of the template DDAT.

For use in the Structural Welding application:

  • WDTR: Weld Detail Reference Rule. If associated with a Jpine Weld (JWELD), sets the STWDTR attribute of the Structural Weld (STWELD) when created.
