Follow a workflow that selects ancillaries valid for the chosen conditions and defines rules for their use.

Create Ancillaries for Rules

  1. In Paragon, on the Supports tab, in the Rules group, select Ancillaries for Rules.

The Ancillaries for Rules window opens to the Select from Available Frameworks page.

  2. Select one or more frame type from the list of Available Frameworks and move them to the list of Selected Frameworks using the arrows.

Select Show Plot File to display a plot file for the most recently selected row in any grid which shows information for the selected frame or ancillary.

Select to reset the window and reload standard defaults.

  3. When you finish selecting frame types, select Select from Allowed Ancillaries to move to the next phase of the workflow.

The left-hand list now shows the ancillaries that can be the primary component and are available on one or more of the selected frameworks.

  4. Select one or more ancillary from the Ancillaries Allowed in Selected Frameworks list and move them to the list of Selected Ancillaries using the arrows.

  5. When you finish selecting ancillaries, select Validate Selected Ancillaries for Rules to move to the next phase of the workflow.

The left-hand list now shows the Selected Ancillaries.

  6. Use the Validate Selected Ancillaries for Rules page as follows:

    1. In the Selected Ancillaries list, select an ancillary:

Compatible frames appear in the Selected Frames table.

Ancillary data appears in the Ancillary Standard Properties table.

The bore data for which the ancillary is active is shown in the Ancillary Bore Properties table.

    2. Select a frame, then select a bore.

    3. Review the content of all fields in the Validate Ancillary Against Model Conditions section. Adjust initial values to match the conditions in which the ancillary will be used.

Fields that are read-only reflect the selections made so far.

Some choices may be available if, for example, the ancillary can be used on more than one pipe material.

    4. Select to validate the ancillary against the specified conditions.

Validation results appear in the Results section:

    5. If the ancillary is valid, select to review the rule information.

The Rule Data fields are read-only and display the data used to build rules.

Rule logic is applied across the entire range of this data by default, but can be modified to divide the ranges as required.

    6. In the Rule Hierarchy section, specify where the rule is created:

      • To create a new rule, select New Rule, then select a rule set from the Rule Sets dropdown list. For more information, see Create a New Rule in Ancillary for Rules.

      • To append an existing rule, select Append, then choose the rule you want to add the new logic to from the Rules dropdown list.

    7. (Optional) Select to return to the previous screen and modify your selections.

    8. Select to build the rule.

The Rule Manager window opens and displays the new rule:

You can further modify the created rule in Rule Manager to meet project requirements. For more information, see Create or Modify Rule Set.
