Modify Application Defaults

Application defaults may change over time, which can cause previously valid rules to become invalid.

Modify an Application Default

Continuing from the previous example, assume that the application defaults for ancillary BT23 have been updated to restrict its use on vertical pipes, as shown:

  1. Reload the application or select refresh located at the bottom left corner of the Ancillary Rule Checker window to show any changes made to the application defaults.

After reloading or refreshing, the Rule Checker returns an error message for Is Vertical:

Because the application defaults now allow this ancillary only on horizontal pipe runs, the rule requires matching logic. If the rule remains unchanged, and a user attempts to select an appropriate ancillary with the Material set to SS, an 100 mm bore and a temperature of 50degC on a vertical pipe, the rules would attempt to select the BT23 ancillary. This selection would fail because it no longer complies with the updated ancillary defaults.

  2. To correct this, right-click inside the Logical Expressions table and select Insert Row to add a new line of logic to the row.

  3. Enter the new logic to the rule as shown here:

  4. Run the Rule Checker again.

The message for Is Vertical now reads Valid:"Is Vertical" rules are consistent, indicating the rule complies with the application defaults.
