Piping Sub-Component Catalogue

Piping Sub-Component Catalogue is created with Point Sets (PTSE), Geometry Sets (GMSE), Datasets (DTSE) and other elements.

Connection Compatibility Element (COCO) Tables

COCO tables manage Sub-Components connections.They work with the connection types defined in the database to check that two components are compatible. For example, a simple VALV-PWMA COCO, defines the connection between a valve and its piping manual handwheel.

Alternatively, more complex COCO tables can be checked against valve type and rating.

For example:

  • COCDES /VVGA-DESC with a Coconnection of VVGA for 150# Gate Valve.

  • COCDES /HWGA-DESC with a Coconnection of HWGA for a Handwheel for a 150# Gate Valve.

  • COCO /VVGA-HWGA with a CocoRef of /VVGA-DESC /HWGA-DEC, for connection in combination.

    Note: VVGA and HWGA are sample acronyms.

P-Point Requirements

Valve (VALV) or Instrument tops Actuator (PIACT), Manual Handwheel (PWMAN), Gearbox (PGBOX), Extended Spindle (PEXSP).

P1 of the Sub-Component will connect to the P3 of the VALV or Instrument (INST).

Chainwheels (PWCHA)

P1 of Chainwheel (PWCHA) connects to P51 of PWMAN under its owner.

P1 of PWCHA connects to P3 of a VALV if no PWMAN is present.

Insulation Boxes (PIBLK)

Aligned P0 to P0.

Generic Sub-Component (PIGEN)

P1 of PIGEN connects to P3 of its owner.

Utilizing Owner Data

Data from the owning element can affect the size or position of the Sub-Components after placement. A VALV may include one or more DATA elements in its dataset, which provide the information needed to size an Insulation Box (PIBLK).

For example:

DKEY

Description

FTFL

face-to-face length.

BHEI

height from the bottom of the flange to the top of the bonnet.

MDBC

max distance below centreline.

When defining the geometry of an insulation box, you can reference the DATA elements in the distance, height, or diameter expressions to ensure the dimensions match those of the owning VALV. For example, Pheight = ATTRIB RPRO VLEN + <flange length> + <bolt extraction length> + ATTRIB IPARA[1].

CATE Purpose

When creating a sub‑component, you can set the CATE Purpose to match the component TYPE by applying a filter, for example, VALV or INST. When the Purpose Filter is selected in the Pipe Sub Component Editor window, the grid displays only the items whose CATE Purpose matches the owning component’s TYPE..

Spec Creation

Creating specifications for Piping Sub-Components follows the same principles and processes as creating specifications for Piping components.

Support for in-Spec and out-of-Spec within creation UI

The Sub-Component forms in E3D Model support spec selection during creation and modification. This ensures that Sub-Components can be assigned to, and selected from, a dedicated sub-component spec when required.

Note:
The use of Out-of-Spec Sub-Components does not generate specification breaks on Isometric Drawings.
