Reserve materials for a DRL item

Reserve materials for a Delivery Request List (DRL) item to ensure the required materials are available when needed and not used by another DRL.

You can only reserve the materials available in storehouses within the selected Stock Site and materials available in full quantity. When reserving materials against a DRL item, the system attempts to reserve the entire requested quantity. If the full quantity is not available, then nothing is reserved.

Sometimes, the entire requested quantity is not available in a single storehouse. In such cases, the following approach is used to decide from where the materials are reserved:

  1. Initially, the system reserves materials within the storehouse where the picking list is generated for the DRL item. The system reserves materials only when the pickling list is generated before the materials are reserved at the DRL level.

  2. The system looks for the storehouse holding the lowest available quantity, enough to cover the entire required DRL item quantity. If such a holding exists, the full quantity is reserved against the storehouse. If a single storehouse cannot cover the entire requirement, the smallest available holdings within the storehouse are reserved.

If material detail preferences are defined for a DRL item, the system reserves materials based on the material detail preferences in addition to material availability. When reserving materials, the system verifies that the required material detail preferences are met. For more information on how to set material detail preferences, see Set material detail preferences for DRL items.

To reserve materials, ensure you have the Can Maintain Material Reservations or Full Access rights to the s21001 Delivery Request Lists screen. For information on how to define access rights, see Assign UI rights to a user role.

  1. Navigate to the s21001 Delivery Request Lists screen.

  2. To refresh the screen, select the F5 key.

  3. In the Delivery Request List grid, select a row.

  4. In the Line Item grid, select one or more materials.

  5. On the s21001 menu, in the Reservations group, from the Reserve dropdown, select one of the following:

    • All Line Items on DRL: To reserve materials for all the items in the DRL.

    • Selected Line Items only: To reserve materials only for the selected items in the DRL.

Note: In the case where material detail preferences are defined for the selected DRL items, if the material detail preferences are met only for part of the requested quantity, then the d0363 Material Reservation Issues dialog appears. Read the message and then proceed as required.

The material reservation details are updated for the selected DRL item. To view the reservation details, see View reservation details of a DRL item.
