Define a substitute material for a primary material

Define a substitute material for a standard material, a project component, a fabricate, or a hull material. The material for which you define a substitute material is called the primary material. At any stage in a project, if there is a material shortage or an issue with the quality of the primary material, you can use the substitute material to replace the primary material.

Navigate to the s20023 Material Substitution and Deviation screen.

In the Material Substitution control block, from the Project dropdown, select the required project ID.

Select anywhere in the Material grid.

On the s20023 menu, in the Add Positions group, from the From Catalogue dropdown, perform one of the following:

To add a standard material, perform the following:
(i) Select Standard Material. The d0001 Standard Material Multi Item Select dialog appears.
(ii) To refresh the dialog, select the F5 key.
(iii) In the Standard Materials grid, select the required material, and then select the Enter key. The selected material appears in the Selected Items grid.
(iv) In the Selected Items grid, in the Quantity field, enter the required quantity for the material.
(v) Select Insert.

To add a project component, perform the following:
(i) Select Project Components. The d0002 Project Component Multi Item Select dialog appears.
(ii) To refresh the dialog, select the F5 key.
(iii) In the ProjectComponent grid, select the required material, and then select the Enter key. The selected material appears in the Selected Items grid.
(iv) In the Selected Items grid, in the Req Quantity field, enter the required quantity for the material.
(v) Select Insert.

To add a hull material, perform the following:
(i) Select Hull Material. The d0081 Hull Material Multi Item select dialog appears.
(ii) To refresh the dialog, select the F5 key.
(iii) In the Hull Material grid, select the required material, and then select the Enter key. The selected material appears in the Selected Items grid.
(iv) In the Selected Items grid, in the Quantity field, enter the required quantity for the material.
(v) Select Insert.

To add a fabricate, perform the following:
(i) Select Fabricates. The d0122 Fabricated Item Selection dialog appears.
(ii) To refresh the dialog, select the F5 key.
(iii) In the Fabricates grid, select the required material, and then select the Enter key. The selected material appears in the SelectedFabricate grid.
(iv) In the SelectedFabricate grid, in the Quantity field, enter the required quantity for each material.
(v) Select Insert.

On the Home menu, in the Record group, select Save.
The material is added to the Material grid.

In the Material grid, select the primary material.

In the Position grid, select the Material Substitution tab, and then select anywhere in the Material Substitution grid.

To create a substitute material for the selected primary material, repeat step 4.

Select the General tab, in the Priority field, enter a unique number to determine the priority of the substitute material.
A lower number indicates a higher priority.

On the Home menu, in the Record group, select Save.
The substitute material is added to the Material Substitution grid.
