Resource hierarchy overview

The resource hierarchy is used to organize resources and define parent-child relationships between the resources based on the resource type.
Parent resources
A parent resource contains one or more child resources.
The rules for parent resources are as follows:

Only a resource of type DEPARTMENT or EXTERNAL can act as a parent resource.

For a resource of type UTILITY, MACHINE, or PRODUCTION GROUP, ensure you assign a parent resource.

You can only assign a resource of type EXTERNAL as the parent of another external resource.
Child resources
A child resource is created within a parent resource.
The rules for child resources are as follows:

For a resource of type UTILITY, MACHINE, or PRODUCTION GROUP, you cannot create a child resource.

You can only create a resource of type DEPARTMENT as the child of another department resource.

You can only create a resource of type EXTERNAL as the child of another external resource.
