Working surplus is the extra quantity ordered for a requisitioned material to avoid inaccuracy in the quantity of the material delivered on a site. You can create a working surplus parameter and a contingency parameter for different purposes:

  • When your estimation of the requisitioned quantity of a material is inaccurate, you can order extra quantity of the material as working surplus.

  • When some pieces of a material can be damaged at the time of delivery, you can order extra quantity of the material as contingency.

When you use a working surplus parameter or a contingency parameter, the requisitioned quantity of a material related to a material classification is increased accordingly. For example, if the requisitioned quantity of a material related to a material classification is 100, the working surplus quantity is 10, and the contingency quantity is 15, then the total quantity ordered for the material is 125.

  1. Navigate to the s40002 Working Surplus Contingency screen.

  2. In the Current Project control block, from the Project dropdown, select the ID of a project.

  3. To refresh the screen, select F5 key.

  4. On the Home menu, in the Record group, select Create.

  5. Select the General tab and perform the following:

    • From the Classification Code dropdown, select the code of a material classification.

    • In the Working Surplus (%) field, enter the percentage of the requisitioned quantity of a material that you want to order as working surplus.

    • In the Contingency (%) field, enter the percentage of the requisitioned quantity of a material that you want to order as contingency.

  6. (Optional) Enter the relevant details in other fields as required. For more information on all the fields, see s40002 Field descriptions.

  7. On the Home menu, in the Record group, select Save.

The working surplus parameter and contingency parameter is created for the selected material classification.
