The Pivot and Transfer process enables you to copy records on demand from system to system within the same domain. When a new record is created, or there is a change to configuration, best practice is to test out the new record or the changes to the existing points before deploying to the production environment. Changes are done on the Development (DEV) environment and then copied to the Test (TST) environment for testing and verification, ensuring that the changes are functioning as designed. Any issues can be resolved and fully tested before deploying to the production environment to reduce the risk of misconfiguration or the new record failing to function as expected. The changes or the new record can then be exported from the TST system using the Advanced Database Editor (ADE) and imported to the Deployment (DEP) system for deployment to the production environment. The imported configurations are verified on the DEP system to make sure that they are correct before employing Pivot and Transfer to send the configurations to the production system.
For the transfer of configurations via the Pivot and Transfer process from the Development to the Test system to work, some configuration is required.
The following are some general terms used in this chapter:
-
Source system (source) is the system where the records reside.
-
Target system (target) is the system to which the records will be copied.
-
Pivot is the process of choosing a target system from a list of available systems.
-
Transfer is copying the records from the source to the target system.
-
System is an Enterprise SCADA system running the RealTime service.
