Multistate Row Edit: Main tab

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 4 minute read

The Main tab in the multistate Row Edit dialog box is used to set up the basic properties of a record, such as group, dataset, and input type.

The Main tab also gives you access to the Historical database (HDB) via the Historical button. Refer to the table below for field descriptions and instructions on how to configure the editable fields.

Items

Description

Name

Select (...) and select the name of the multistate record from the Multistate Select dialog box.

Description

Enter a description of the record. The Description can be up to 47 characters in length. This field is for information purposes only and can be used to describe the record, its association with other points, or any other textual information. The Name and Description configured for a record appear in the summary tables in easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS).

Commissioning Required

Select the Commissioning Required checkbox when the point is ready to be commissioned. When this checkbox is selected, the point will appear in the Point Verification Summary. This checkbox will be cleared after the point has been commissioned.

Point Type

Select the type of point that this record is representing. The choices are:

  • telemetered. The record represents an actual measuring device. If this is selected, you must configure the Remote field and specify which remote record the device is associated with.

Telemetered data is only fresh when there is good connectivity to the point’s associated remote and the telemetered value has not been manually overridden.

  • manual entry. The record uses a fixed, manually entered value that has no associated measuring device. The value you want to use must be entered using the manual override on the Multistate Control dialog box (refer to the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA HMI Controller documentation).

    This data is always fresh.

  • calculated. The analog value is computed by an application. For instance, an Application Calculation Engine (ACE) config record might be defined with this analog or multistate record as its output point. If a control routine is desired, only the aceconfig and acecode records need to be defined. There will not be an associated output calculated point (for example, no analog or multistate point).

These points are fresh if the calculation routine has successfully run and all or some (configurable) input parameters are fresh and the calculated value has not been manually overridden.

Group

Select (...) and select the name of the group this record belongs to from the Group Select dialog box.

Remote

Select (...) and select the name of the remote associated with this record from the Remote Select dialog box. This field must be configured if the Point Type is set to telemetered.

Dataset

Select (...) and select the name of the dataset you want to associate with this record from the Dataset Select dialog box.

A dataset contains privileges assigned for each system and mode. Once a record is assigned to a data set value, the dataset can only be changed to a value for which the system has a privilege record. A record’s dataset cannot be changed in such a way that the system can no longer access the record.

Base Message

Select (...) and select the message associated with the record from the Message Select dialog box.

Well Unit

This field is used by Display Framework, a separately acquired product.

Station

Select (...) and select the name of the station you want to associate with this record from the Station Select dialog box.

For further information, refer to Station Monitoring.

PointClass

These fields are used by Display Framework, a separately acquired product.

The options available for these fields are automatically filtered based on category.

PointSubClass

Multi-Control Group

Select (...) and select the MultiControlGroup record associated with the record from the MultiControlGroup Select dialog box.

For further information, refer to Multi-Control.

Command Order

Enter the order in which the system issues a command against the point if it belongs to a MultiControlGroup record.

For further information, refer to Multi-Control.

Mapping Flag

Enter the 32-bit integer value to map this point to a non-AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system.

For further information, refer to Map points with other systems.

Priority Display

Specify the graphic you want to be associated with the priority display button on an ezXOS Control dialog box.

Display Order

This field is used for display purposes. It would only be used if the nomination information were being represented on a station template object. It is only relevant to systems that have this optional software component. Unless you specifically use the Display Framework, the value is not used.

The default value is 0.

Data Format

Select the multistate subtype used for this point. The choices are the following:

  • Enumeration Format. The point reads a register (whole word) from the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).

  • Bit Format. The point reads up to 8 bits from the RTU. It results in an input of up to 256 states.

  • Unconfigured. On the Output tab, both buttons, Bit Pattern Output and Enumerated Output, will be disabled for this Data Format selection.

Sub-Remote Status Indicator

Select (...) and select the status point serving as a Sub-Remote Status Indicator stale point.

For further information, refer to Sub-Remote Status Indicator.

Historical

Select to open the collect Table Edit dialog box that can be used to configure Historical data collection.
