When you start the Open Platform Communications (OPC) Client, the system automatically creates a default opc.log file in the %DNADataRoot%\Tools\log folder. Follow the procedure below to override the default log file with a custom-named log file.

To override the default OPC Client log file

  1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services.

    The Services dialog box appears.

  2. In the list of services, right-click OPC Client.

  3. Select Properties.

The OASyS DNA OPC Client Services Properties dialog box appears.

  4. Select Stop.

  5. In the Start parameters field, enter -l <FileName>.log -port <PortNumber>

    Where:

    • <FileName> = The name of the custom log file.

    • <PortNumber> = The communication port number that the OPC Client uses to communicate with Omnicomm.

Notes: Do not include the absolute or relative file path: enter only the file name. The system will ignore any absolute or relative path you enter here.

The system creates the log file in the %DNADataRoot%\Tools\log folder.

In the example above, the system is configured to create the myopc.log file in the %DNADataRoot%\Tools\log folder.

  6. Select Start.

  7. Select OK.

Important: The next time you stop and start the OPC Client service, the system will use the default opc.log file unless you once again override it with the Start parameters. To permanently override the default log file, refer to Permanently override the default log file.
