PI Templates - Advanced Database Editor (ADE)

In all pre-Columbia release configuration pathways, the RealTime database (RTDB) includes a table of PI Template records that contain seed values to be integrated in the PI Tags kept within the RTDB PI table.

On record creation, a template is selected and the contents of the Template are then copied into the specific PI record being created. After that step, the individual PI Tag can be adjusted as needed to adapt to the specific behaviors of the point in question.

PI templates can be used to configure groups of points that have similar attributes. For example, templates can be created for different types of telemetry points, such as analog, rate or status. Different PI Tag types can have unique collection policies.

The following is a list of RTDB tables from which PI Tags can be created:

  • Analog

  • Application

  • Connection

  • Modbus

  • Modem

  • Omnicomm

  • Rate

  • Remote

  • Status

Any PI attribute can be pre-configured in a template; with the exception of the name of the point, which is, of course, unique to every point.

There is no limit as to the number of templates that can be created; however, it is advisable to design your templates carefully and keep the number of choices from being overwhelming.
