Configure a multistate record to support output to multiple registers

Follow the procedure below to configure a multistate record to support output to multiple registers with a preset bit format.

Notes: Multiple register output is only available for points using eXtended Modbus (Xmodbus) remotes.

The Xmodbus Protocol Driver for OASyS' SW word swap definition will swap the values of multiple registers on multistate records. For example, the value of Register #2 is sent in Register #1 and vice versa. The effect of the word swap on the multistate command output is not visible at the multistate record level and must be verified at the level of the driver.

The registers in the remote must be adjacent; for example, 4001 and 4002.

The following procedure example is created assuming xmodbus records are used and available on the system.

To configure a multistate record to support output to multiple registers

  1. Open the multistate Row Edit dialog box for the multistate record you want to configure.

  2. From the Main tab, select Bit Format from the Data Format dropdown menu.

  3. Select the Output tab.

  4. Select Bit Pattern Output.

The Bit Format Output dialog box appears.

  5. Set the Command to Multiple Regs Output for both OPEN and CLOSE Command Type.

  6. Set the values for the Coordinates and select Accept.

Note: If you set the Coordinates as 4001, the Multiple Regs Output Command will write two unsigned 16 bit values into 4001 and 4002.

  7. From the Output tab, select Configure Bit Pattern.

The Bit Mask Selector dialog box appears.

  8. Set the values for the OPEN (Multiple Regs Output): #1 and OPEN (Multiple Regs Output): #2 on the Command #1 tab.

    Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

Note: When you send the OPEN command from this multistate, the value of the xmodbus RTU Register 4001 will be 1, and the value of xmodbus RTU Register 4002 will be 4.

  9. Set the values for the CLOSE (Multiple Regs Output): #1 and CLOSE (Multiple Regs Output): #2 on the Command #2 tab. Select OK.

Note: When you send the CLOSE command from this multistate, the value of the xmodbus RTU Register 4001 will be 8, and the value of xmodbus RTU Register 4002 will be 16.

  10. Save the record changes.

Note: Be aware that the values entered in the Bit Mask Selector dialog box are affected by the Byte Swap Definition option selected on the Main tab of the xmodbus Row Edit dialog box for the xmodbus record associated with the multistate point's remote.

The Byte Swap Definition setting reorders bits, bytes, and words. For example, if SW is selected, the values of registers #1 and #2 as configured on the Bit Mask Selector dialog box are swapped. Value #1 is sent to the second register, and Value #2 is sent to the first register. For further information, refer to volume 2 of the RealTime Administrator documentation.
