Add a NonNativeEnumeration element

For columns stored as text, the NonNativeEnumeration element is used to restrict the available values. The NonNativeEnumeration element provides a dropdown menu where an Administrator can select a value.

For example, the typeName column in the acecode table is a string column where an Administrator can type a value. To restrict the values for this column, use a NonNativeEnumeration element so that that the Administrator can only select either ACE Engine C Sharp.NET or ACE Engine VB.NET.

In the procedure below, the NonNativeEnumeration element is added to the typeName column in the acecode table.

Adding a NonNativeEnumeration element (example)

  1. Navigate to the following directory and open the XML file for the form to which you want to add the NonNativeEnumeration element (as per our example, the file in question is farm.xml or farm.Alter.xml):

    %DNADataRoot%\ADE\config\ADE\DBEdit\Schema\[baseline | custom]

  2. Embed the NonNativeEnumeration element inside the Field element.

    The NonNativeEnumeration element is the framework, while the enumeration elements are used to define the values for the dropdown menu.

    <Field

    Name="typeName"

    RowLabel="Source code type"

    ColumnLabel="Source code type"

    TabOrder="20"

    ToolTipText="The type of language the source code is written"

    IsRequired="true"

    IsReadOnly="false"

    IsVisible="true"

    DisplayWidthToUse="Medium">

    <NonNativeEnumeration Name="TYPENAME_ENUM" Description="TypeName enumeration"

    DisplayMember="Description" ValueMember="Description">

    <enumeration Name="Csharp" Description="ACE Engine CSharp.NET"

    Enable="true" Number="1" />

    <enumeration Name="VB" Description="ACE Engine VB.NET"

    Enable="true" Number="2" />

    </NonNativeEnumeration>

    </Field>

  3. On the desktop, double-click the Windows PowerShell for DNA shortcut.

    Windows PowerShell for DNA opens.

  4. Execute the DBEditDisplaySchemaMerge command (refer to Merge all DBEdit XML files).
