To implement Network Management Console (NMC) extensibility
-
Download the Visual Studio installer from the Microsoft web site.
-
Launch the installer.
-
The Workloads tab of the installer appears.

-
Select the Individual components tab.

-
Ensure the components are selected as seen above.
-
Select Install while downloading.
When the installation is complete, the post-installation page of the installer appears.

-
Select Launch.
-
If prompted, reboot the computer.
-
On the desktop, double-click the Windows PowerShell for DNA shortcut.
Windows PowerShell for DNA opens.
-
Create a Tools Developer Environment (refer to the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA Shared Components Developer documentation).
-
Open Visual Studio as an Administrator.
-
Open the following solution file:
C:\Dev\Tools\source\Common.Examples.sln

-
Change the ManagedClassLibrary project to create a Dynamic-link library (DLL) that ends in .NMCExtensions (that is, change the Assembly name to ManagedClassLibrary.NMCExtensions).

-
In Solution Explorer, right-click ManagedClassLibrary, and select Add > Reference.

-
From the lib folder in your dev environment, add a reference to OASySDNA.Common.NMC.dll.
-
Create a new public class that inherits from the INMCExtension interface.
-
Implement the INMCExtension interface to do something simple, such as log a message to the oasErrLog.log file.

-
Build the Project.
This will generate the following DLL:
C:\Dev\Tools\Bin\ManagedClassLibrary.NMCExtensions.dll
-
Start NMC on the computer.
-
Observe the newly added custom comment in the oasErrLog.log file.
