The Process Monitor watches over process health for each service on each computer within your AVEVA Enterprise SCADA installation. Each service contains a single instance of the Process Monitor to protect the processes associated with that service.
Using the Network Management Console (NMC), the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA Administrator can view the status of each process.
The Process Monitor is composed of two major elements:
-
The actual Process Monitor process that runs on the server and performs the monitoring of the processes.
-
The NMC snap-in that supplies the user interface for the Process Monitor.
The communication between the NMC snap-in and the Process Monitor is facilitated through a PubSub topic.
When the Process Monitor publishes a failure status for a specific process (or alternatively an OK status), it publishes messages to the NMC snap-in and the arbitration health server. The arbitration health server is then expected to take any arbitration actions required, as shown in the figure below.

When creating application processes that are started as members of a specific service, your process must check-in with the Process Monitor. This ensures that, when a shutdown occurs, your process is terminated.
