The Timeline/TimeSeries database

Except for accumulator-type rate data, all RealTime numerical data is sent to the Historical Timeline or TimeSeries database for storage.

The Timeline database and TimeSeries database both provide collection and summarization features for records in the RealTime and Historical services. The Timeline database is used by systems up to Historical 7.5.6 and the TimeSeries database is available starting with Historical 7.5.7. Your system can only be configured to use one of these databases, not both.

The Timeline database stores RealTime data as Binary Large Objects (BLOBs), while the TimeSeries database stores RealTime data as individual records. This allows TimeSeries to handle a larger number of records. For trending purposes, the Timeline or TimeSeries database enables the RealTime service to collect record data at a specified time, frequency or upon the modification of certain record values. Configuration for the collection of TimeSeries or Timeline data can be performed through the Advanced Database Editor (ADE).

Depending on whether the TimeSeries or Timeline database is configured, the RealTime data will only be summarized for that database. Refer to the procedures described in the Data collection and summary section for more details. This data is used when plotting Historical data (for details on plotting or trending data, refer to the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA HMI Controller documentation). Tables in both databases carry a tag identifier number, in the tagId field, which is used to obtain access to a specific record within a table. This is similar to a RealTime record number.

If your system is configured for TimeSeries instead of Timeline, the status of each collect record is represented by an underlying data quality integer value. For descriptions of the integer values and their associated data qualities, refer to TimeSeries dataQualityDefine table.

Note: The Priority column is reserved for future use.
