AVEVA Enterprise SCADA

Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) users

Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) is a replicated Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) datastore installed on all computers that host the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA products; however it is only used for storing user information under Station AVEVA Enterprise SCADA and myOASyS.

All AVEVA Enterprise SCADA applications authenticate through ADAM. If a requested user is present within the ADAM datastore, the user will be authenticated through ADAM. If the user is not present in a non-Enterprise / non-domain configuration, an authentication failure will occur. In an Enterprise or domain-integrated scenario, the authentication request will be forwarded to Active Directory (AD). If authentication is successful with the AD, the user token will be returned via ADAM. If AD does not successfully authenticate the user, an authentication failure will occur.

Note: ADAM users may be created on a AVEVA Enterprise SCADA Enterprise Edition system, running under an AD domain. This is not a recommended practice as the authentication performed through AD via Kerberos is superior from a security standpoint.
