Create DNA permissions

While DNA Permissions are pre-configured, you can create new DNA Permissions for use in custom applications. While these new permissions can be created using the Network Management Console (NMC), they will have no effect on the product unless special applications are written to check for membership in custom permissions.

Despite infrastructure support of any custom bit mask and DNA Permission name, eXtended Editor (XE) and easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS), both of which belong to AVEVA Enterprise SCADA HMI, only support new DNA Permissions that use the following names and mask bits:

  • DNA Permission - Access_1 using mask bit 10

  • DNA Permission - Access_2 using mask bit 11

  • DNA Permission - Access_3 using mask bit 12

  • DNA Permission - Access_4 using mask bit 13

  • DNA Permission - Access_5 using mask bit 14

  • DNA Permission - Access_6 using mask bit 15

  • DNA Permission - Access_7 using mask bit 16

  • DNA Permission - Access_8 using mask bit 17

To create a new DNA permission

  1. Right-click on the Permissions node on the left pane of the Network Management Console (NMC) and select New Permission.

    Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

The Create OASyS DNA Permissions Wizard appears.

  2. Select Next.

    The General page appears.

  3. In the New Permissions field, enter the name of the new permission.

  4. (Optional) Enter a Description.

  5. Only select Is this Permission included in the DNA Permission Mask? if the permission is frequently checked.

After you select the checkbox, the system automatically populates the Bit value field with the next available bit mask value.

Note: There is a maximum of 32 (from 0 to 31) bit values permitted, and they cannot be reused by more than one DNA Permission object.

  6. Select Next.

    The Summary page appears.

  7. Review the displayed information.

  8. Select Next.

    The Completion page appears.

The Completion page will indicate either the successful completion of the procedure, or the reason(s) for a failure (for example, use of a bit mask already in use by an existing DNA Permission).

  9. Select Finish.

  10. To set the DNA Permission members, right-click on the new DNA Permission object in the right pane of the NMC and select Properties.

For further information, refer to Configure the Members tab in the DNA Permission Properties dialog box.
