Store and Forward is an optional configuration for CMX Replication. The StoreAndForward table can be accessed under Custom Replication in ADE. Using this table gives you greater control over how data is replicated between computers in your system.
Because CMX Replication is responsible for ensuring redundancy between systems, a distributed system works with defined owners and subscribers of datasets. This allows the systems to share data so that information can be accessed from any computer within it. Store and Forward allows you to define replication routes that enable dataset owners to share the task of delivering data. A non-owning system is chosen as the Store and Forward system, which facilitates the transfer of data from the owner to other computers by acting as a proxy source system for fulfilling subscriptions. The replication routes are configured so that all necessary datasets are replicated to this system, which forwards the data as needed, delivering it to the intended destinations.
Store and Forward is effective when network bandwidth is not large enough to handle transferring data to all of the systems with subscriptions to that data. It reduces the negative impact on the owning system's performance and stability when subscriptions are fulfilled. Configuring replication in this way also enhances the flexibility of how networks can be used. Systems with greater bandwidth can act as the Store and Forward system, thereby minimizing the network requirements between non-owning systems. Data replication is far less expensive with Store and Forward configured when compared to traditional replication.
