Note: For information on overriding default configuration settings, refer to Modify configuration settings.
To create additional instances of the Open Platform Communication (OPC) server, follow the steps below in the order specified.
To create additional instances of the OPC server
-
Decide on the name of the additional OPC Server instance.
For example, My.OPC.TestServer.1.
-
Create a holding directory for the new instance under %DNADataRoot%\Realtime\bin.
-
Create a configuration file for the new server:
-
Do one of the following:
-
Using a text editor, create the file My.OPC.TestServer.1.exe.config in the holding directory created above.
-
Copy the default configuration file from %DNAInstallRoot%\Realtime\bin\DANSrvNet4.exe.config, and rename it My.OPC.TestServer.1.exe.config.
-
-
In a text editor, replace the values of the following fields in the My.OPC.TestServer.1.exe.config file with new Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) values:
-
ClsidServer
-
ClsidApp
Note: There are numerous, free online GUID value generators.
-
-
Change the values of the ServerProgID, CurrentServerProgID, and ServerName fields for the new instance of the OPC Server.
Important: Ensure the new names were not used in previous instances, as they are the unique identifiers of the new OPC Server instance.
<add key="ClsidServer" value="{insert a new GUID here}"/>
<add key="ClsidApp" value="{insert a new GUID here}"/>
<add key="ServerProgID" value="My.OPC.TestServer.1"/>
<add key="CurrServerProgID" value="My.OPC.TestServer.1"/>
<add key="ServerName" value="My.OPC.TestServer.1"/>
<add key="CurrServerName" value="My OPC TestServer 1"/>
-
-
Open an elevated PowerShell session.
-
Execute the following commands:
set-silo RealTime
Run Install-OPCServer.ps1.
-
When prompted, use My.OPC.TestServer.1 as the ServerName.
-
The new server directory will now be linked to look as follows:

-
Verify that the new server is created.
-
Open a Windows Command Prompt.
-
Execute the following command:
dcomcnfg
The Component Services window opens.

-
Navigate down to the DCOM Config directory, and locate the new server name.
-
In the %DNADataRoot%\RealTime\config\Settings directory, either create or open the OPCDAServerConfig.json file.
-
Add the following section to the file:
{
"RealTime": {
"OPCDAServer": {
"My.OPC.TestServer.1": {
"HPDB": false,
"LASTKRUNCHTIMEFROMPACKED": false,
"MAPDATAQUALITY": false,
"MAPTIMESTAMP": false,
"NOSYSTEMNAME": false,
"ACCESSPERMISSION": "READWRITE",
"SECURITYOVERRIDE": false,
"VERBOSE": true,
"SUBSCRIPTIONS": [],
}
}
}
}
-
Restart the RealTime service.
The new server is now ready to be used.
