Compressor Row Edit: Alarming tab

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 3 minute read

Use the Alarming tab in the compressor Row Edit dialog box to configure the surge-warning and surge-control alarm limits for a compressor.

When one of these limits is violated, the system generates an alarm and logs an event. The figure below illustrates how surge-control and surge-warning alarm limits appear on a compressor performance plot (head pressure vs. flow rate).

Refer to the table below for field descriptions and instructions on how to configure the editable fields.

Item

Description

Enable Surge Alarms

Select to enable surge control alarming.

Enable Surge Warning Alarms

Select to enable surge warning alarming.

Start Warning Enable

Select to enable and configure unit start checking.

Annual Start Limit

Enter the number of times the compressor may be started per year. If the number of starts exceeds this value, the system places an annual start accumulation tag on the status control point and issues a warning to alert the Controller.

The status control point (Start Control Point) is configured through the Unit Telemetry tab in the compressor Row Edit dialog box.

Start Warning Limit

Enter the start warning limit. If the number of allocated starts remaining is less than this limit, the system places a unit start warning tag on the status control point and issues a warning to alert the Controller.

The status control point (Start Control Point) is configured through the Unit Telemetry tab in the compressor Row Edit dialog box.

Engine Status

Select the type of point (Analog or Status) used to determine engine status.

Engine Status Point

Select (...) and, from the Status Select dialog box, select the name of the status point used to determine engine status.

Note: This field is only available if you select Status in the Engine Status field.

Engine Speed Analog

Select (...) and, from the Analog Select dialog box, select the name of the analog point used to determine engine status.

Note: This field is only available if you select Analog in the Engine Status field.

Stopped Threshold (Engine)

Enter the speed at which the engine is considered to have stopped.

Note: This field is only available if you select Analog in the Engine Status field.

Loaded Threshold (Engine)

Enter the speed at which the engine is considered to be loaded.

Note: This field is only available if you select Analog in the Engine Status field.

Engine Speed Redline

Enter the maximum speed at which the engine is considered to be running safely.

Compressor Speed Analog

Select (...) and, from the Analog Select dialog box, select the name of the analog point used to determine compressor status.

Note: This field is only available if you select Analog in the Engine Status field.

Stopped Threshold (Compressor)

Enter the speed at which the compressor is considered to have stopped.

Note: This field is only available if you select Analog in the Engine Status field.

Loaded Threshold (Compressor)

Enter the speed at which the compressor is considered to be loaded.

Note: This field is only available if you select Analog in the Engine Status field.

Compressor Speed Redline

Enter the maximum speed at which the compressor is considered to be running safely.
