Example of alarm roll up

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 2 minute read

The following example illustrates how alarms propagate upwards from the station level to the site and region levels.

For this example, we assume the following:

  • "test_station_3" belongs to "test_site_3"

  • "test_station_4" belongs to "test_site_4"

  • "test_site_3" belongs to "test_region_2"

  • "test_site_4" belongs to "test_region_4"

In the figure below, we see there are currently no alarms at any of the stations listed in the Station Summary window. Therefore, none of the points associated with the four listed stations are currently in an alarm state.

Region, Site, and Station Summary windows - No Alarms at Stations

The following alarms occur:

  • The analog point "AP1" associated with "test_station_3" enters a Low alarm state (Severity = Medium; Color = Yellow).

  • The analog point "AP2" associated with "test_station_4" enters a LowLow alarm state (Severity = High; Color = Red).

  • The analog point "AP3" associated with "test_station_4" enters a High alarm state (Severity= Medium; Color = Yellow).

Region, Site, and Station Summary windows - Alarms at Stations

In the above figure, the Station Summary window indicates that there is one unacknowledged alarm of medium severity at "test_station_3". The row for "test_station_3" appears in yellow to match the color of the highest active alarm severity at that station.

At "test_station_4", meanwhile, there are two unacknowledged alarms—one of high severity; one medium. The row for "test_station_4" appears in red to match the color of the highest active alarm severity at that station.

The Site Summary window reports the following:

  • "test_site_3", to which "test_station_3" belongs, has one unacknowledged alarm of medium severity.

  • "test_site_4", to which "test_station_4" belongs, has two unacknowledged alarms—one of high severity; one medium.

The Region Summary window reports the following:

  • "test_region_2", to which "test_site_3" belongs, has one unacknowledged alarm of medium severity.

  • "test_region_4", to which "test_site_4" belongs, has two unacknowledged alarms—one of high severity; one medium.
