TCPListener

TCPListener is a simplified packet sniffer used to eavesdrop on, and capture communication between, an AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system in production (source) and its field units.
The Listener software forwards copies of these packets to a listening system, which then processes the packets. The TCPListener software allows test systems to listen to RealTime production data without making any configuration changes to the live production AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system, and without requiring inbound connections from the DMZ to the safe production zone.
This application is primarily used during the commissioning phase of a new project, where customers are transitioning from an older AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system (source) to a newer one (listening). During the transition, customers need to test such functionality as alarming and control room management on the new system using real data without disrupting operations on the current production system. When the project moves the new system from the commissioning phase to the operational phase, control of the field units moves to the new system, and the TCPListener software is typically no longer required.
However, a customer might choose to make use of this functionality on an ongoing basis after commissioning is complete. In the post-commissioning environment, the listening software would send captured data from the new production system (source) to a parallel test system (listening). Such a setup could, for example, allow customers to test new equipment and configurations before moving them to the control of the production system.
Note: The application does not support listening to Historical data.
The steps involved in setting up and running the application are as follows:
-
Set up TCPListener.
-
Configure TCPListener either manually or automatically.
-
Configure the Listen Only Connection.
-
Set up and start the OASyS DNA Socket Server Relay Service (refer to OASyS DNA Socket Server Relay Service).
-
Start the TCPListener Process.
