Change the state of a device through Setpoint Ramping

Follow this procedure to configure and initiate a Setpoint Ramping command for an analog point.

Notes: If the analog point has a control inhibit tag, such as "no commands" or "no operator cmds", the system generates an error message stating that the Setpoint Ramping operation cannot start until the tag is cleared. Similarly, if you or another Controller places a control inhibit tag on an analog point that is currently undergoing a Setpoint Ramping operation, the system stops the operation before processing the next step and cancels all planned Setpoint Ramping commands.

The Analog Control dialog box is opened through either a station schematic or the Analog Summary window. For information on the Analog Summary window, refer to the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA HMI Controller documentation.

Setpoint Ramping commands should only be initiated from the owning system.

To change the state of a device through Setpoint Ramping

  1. Open the Analog Control dialog box.

  2. Select Setpoint Ramping.

Note: If you attempt to switch to Manual when Setpoint Ramping is in effect, the system generates an error message stating that you must first cancel the current Setpoint ramp before proceeding with the desired action.

The Setpoint Ramping dialog box opens.

Note: For information on the validation checking in place for values entered through the Setpoint Ramping dialog box, refer to Validation rules.

  3. In the Final Value field, enter the final target value for the analog point.

As soon as you start typing values, the Execute Ramp button becomes unavailable. It will only become available once the entered values pass validation.

  4. In the Ramp Duration (min) field, enter the length of time in minutes that the Setpoint Ramping operation should last.

  5. In the Number of steps field, enter the number of steps involved in the Setpoint Ramping operation.

  6. Select Validate to check the validity of all entered values.

Using the Ramp Duration (min) and Number of steps values, the application calculates the interval between each setpoint command.

Using the Current Setpoint, Final Value, and Number of steps values, the application calculates the setpoint value for each step.

Note: For analog points configured as integers, ensure that the inputs are such that, after validation, the value in the Step field works out to an integer. This helps to ensure proper functioning of the Setpoint Ramping application.

All values that pass the validation checks appear in a green font color.

If any value fails a validation check, the system generates an error message and changes the offending value's font color from black to red.

Only when all values pass the validation checks does the application allow you to proceed with the Setpoint Ramping command.

  7. Select Execute Ramp.

    The following occurs:

    • The text "RAMPING ACTIVE" appears on the dialog box.

    • The text on the Execute Ramp button switches to "Override Ramp".

Refer to Override a Setpoint Ramping operation.

    • The Override Ramp button becomes unavailable.

    • The Cancel Ramp button becomes available.

Refer to Cancel a Setpoint Ramping operation.

    • A Setpoint Ramping command tag appears to the right of the point's current value on the Analog Control dialog box, and to the left of the point's row in the Analog Summary window.

  8. Select Dismiss.
