Start the Interactive SQL (ISQL) tool

Use the Interactive SQL (ISQL) tool to issue Microsoft SQL commands to access the RealTime database (RTDB). The Microsoft SQL commands are processed by the Microsoft SQL Engine and applied to the RTDB to view, create, update, and delete records in the tables.

Before you begin

  • Ensure the RealTime Service is running.

To start ISQL

  1. In the Start menu, select Interactive SQL (ODBC).

Note: Enter ODBCISQL in the Start menu to find ISQL.

The OpenRDA Interactive SQL (ISQL Application) opens.

  2. To view the full list of available ISQL commands, enter help and press Enter.

Note: Although RTDB table and column names are defined in the RTDB Schema as case-sensitive, the Microsoft SQL Engine treats all table and column names as case-insensitive. Note also that, while Microsoft SQL Engine is case-insensitive, PubSub is case sensitive, and Business Logic Tier (BLT) is case-sensitive for all but the point name (based on the key field being defined as case-insensitive in the RTDB schema).

Issuing a command with ISQL

In the example below, the ISQL tool is used to connect to a data source through a Microsoft SQL command (connect localRTDB). The command connects to the specified data source name (localRTDB) that is already installed and pre-configured on the system.
