Create a Device Path Join (devpathjoin) Record

Follow this procedure to create a Device Path Join (devpathjoin) record, which represents the child record of each part of a device. The devpathjoin record is used in conjunction with a device record to enable multiple point records to be associated to a device in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA. For more information on creating a device record, refer to Create a device record.

Note: A given device cannot have more than 10 sub-devices (devpathjoin records).

To create a devpathjoin record

  1. Open the Advanced Database Editor (ADE).

  2. The devpathjoin table can be located and opened from the following locations in ADE:

    • Opening the device table and then opening a device will reveal the devpathjoin table for that specific device.

    • Opening the devpathjoin table from the base ADE screen will reveal all device joins configured in the system.

The devpathjoin Table Edit dialog box appears.

  3. From the Table menu, select Insert Row.

A new row appears in the devpathjoin Table Edit dialog box.

  4. Double click in the row header of the new row.

The devpathjoin Row Details dialog box appears.

  5. In the Device field, select (…) and select the device (that is, the parent device) you want to associate with this join.

  6. In the Child Point field, select (…), and then select the path of the point or device that will be contributing to the rollup. For the master value selected, it is recommended to use curval, cursta, or the field best representing the value of the selected point. For the sub-device or device type, you need to select curval to have the master value properly rolled up. The field that is selected as part of the path will be used as the parent device's value if this record is set as the master point. The application only supports analog, device, flowTotalConfig, multistate, pump, rate, rtstring, status, tank, and valve paths.

Note: When selecting another device record as the child point, ensure the entire tree does not exceed three levels in total. That is, the parent device record cannot have child devpathjoin records that are also device records more than two levels deep. Additionally, ensure you do not configure child device records into a circular reference. In both cases, a configuration error will be displayed.

  7. Optional: Select the Master Point checkbox to enable this point as the master for the top-level device. As well as having alarms, quality, and flags rolled up to the top level, the top-level device will use the master point current value as its current value.

Note: You cannot select more than one devpathjoin record in a device as the master point.

  8. Optional: Select the Quality Rollup checkbox to specify that the quality information for this point will be used in the device rollup.

  9. Optional: Select the Tag Rollup checkbox to specify that the tag presence for this point will be reflected in the top-level device rollup.

If Master Point and Tag Rollup are selected, the device will reflect the highest precedence active tag of the master point using the icon associated with that tag. All other sub-devices will only contribute to tag presence count, and, in the absence of a tag on the master point, will be shown as informational tags at the device level.
