If a PI tag is updating with an empty value, but you are not receiving any errors in the PI log file, it is likely that the PI tag was configured using the wrong data collection method to retrieve data from a virtual field in the RealTime database (RTDB).
To change the PI tag configuration
You can change the PI tag configuration for the point using the Advanced Database Editor (ADE) or the PI System Management Tools (SMT).
-
Using ADE:
-
Open ADE.

-
Select the View tab and select PI.
-
Expand Classic until you see the PI tag you want to update.
-
Right-click on the PI tag and select Open.
The Row Edit dialog box for the PI tag opens.

-
Check the Collection type. If it is set to R field (11) or R field w DQ (12), change it to be R field w v_fldget (1).
-
-
Using PI SMT:
-
Open the System Management Tools window.

-
Select Points > PointBuilder.
-
Select the Tag Search icon to open the Tag Search.

-
Search for the point you want to update.

-
Highlight the point you want and select OK.
-
Select the Classic tab.

-
Check the Location2 value. If it is 11 or 12, change it to 1.
