Understanding topic naming rules

The following list outlines the rules for topic names:
-
A topic name consists of one or more substrings (or "nodes"), each separated by a period, for example, a.b.c.d.
-
There is no delimiter for a period, thus nodes may not contain embedded periods.
-
Topic names are case-sensitive.
-
An asterisk is a valid character in a node name and should not be confused with the |*| filter wildcard expression, as such, the topics a.*.c and a.|*|.c are different.
