Prepare for database conversion

Perform the following tasks to prepare for your database conversion.

To prepare for your database conversion

  1. Ensure all AVEVA Enterprise SCADA processes have been shut down through the Network Management Console (NMC) on the Test and Development System.

  2. On the desktop, double-click the Windows PowerShell for DNA shortcut.

    Windows PowerShell for DNA opens.

  3. Execute the following commands:

    set-silo RealTime

    savedata [-h] [-d] [-w] [#]

    Where:

    • -h provides a list of command line options.

    • -d saves the database as a save.dat.day file.

    • -w saves the database as a save.dat.week file.

    • # is the number of backup files you want to make.

  4. Copy the resultant save.dat file from the Hot RealTime station to the Test and Development System. The file will be located at %DNADataRoot%\RealTime\database\INTEL_NT\save.dat. This file is required to ensure the Test and Development System, which is responsible for performing the conversion, will be synchronized with the current RealTime Database (RTDB) configuration at the outset. Assuming the RealTime station and Test and Development System are independent, this second copy may also serve as an alternate source from which the original database might be restored, should it become necessary. Do not make any configuration modifications until the system can be restarted as they will invalidate the configuration snapshot represented in the save.dat file.

  5. Execute the following command:

    loaddata [-h] [-f] -filename <NameOfFile>

    Where:

    • -h provides a list of command line options.

    • -f forces the load of the new data.

    • -filename <NameOfFile> is the name of the of the datafile you want to load. If no filename is supplied, the default save.dat file will be loaded.

  6. If you want to preserve an existing database, you will need to execute the textsave script on the Test and Development System to generate snapshot files of the active database. The script is located at %DNAInstallRoot%\RealTime\scripts \text_save.csc. The text_save command will translate the contents of the active database into a textual format, to be stored as .l files in the %DNADataRoot%\RealTime\database\INTEL_NT directory, suitable for reload once the new database has been created. It will also refresh the %DNADataRoot%\RealTime\database\INTEL_NT\{root|types}.txt files to reflect the current database configuration.

Note: Projects/Developers who do not intend to preserve (then later reload) the contents of their original database may choose to skip this step, and use loadblankdb once the new database is constructed.
