Follow this procedure to create a device record, which represents the parent record of the device as a whole. The device record is used in conjunction with a Device Path Join [devpathjoin] record) to enable multiple point records to be associated to a device in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA.

For more information on creating a devpathjoin record, refer to Create a Device Path Join (devpathjoin) Record.

To create a device record

  1. Open the Advanced Database Editor (ADE) and locate the device table.

  2. Double-click the device table.

The device Table Edit dialog box appears.

    Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

  3. From the Table menu, select Insert Row.

A new row appears in the device Table Edit dialog box.

  4. Double-click in the row header of the new row.

The device Row Details dialog box appears.

  5. In the Name field, enter a unique device name.

  6. Optional: In the Description field, enter a brief description of the device.

  7. Optional: In the Group field, select (…) and select the name of the group you want to associate with this record.

Note: The selected group record should match the group of the master point. Otherwise, the controllability indication may behave incorrectly. For further information, refer to Create a Device Path Join (devpathjoin) Record.

  8. Optional: In the Dataset field, select (...) and select the name of the dataset you want to associate with this record from the Dataset Select dialog box. All the devpathjoin records (that is, the child points and sub-devices) that are associated to this record must use this dataset. If the dataset for the device does not match the parent, the system that owns the device may not own the parent device, and the rollup process will fail.

Notes: Database records (analog, status, multistate, rate, rtstring, tank, valve, and pump) and other device records cannot be associated with a device using the device Row Edit dialog box. They will need to be configured using the Device Path Join (devpathjoin) table operations. For more information, refer to Create a Device Path Join (devpathjoin) Record.

The selected doas_dataset record should match the dataset of the master point. Otherwise, the controllability indication may behave incorrectly. For further information, refer to Create a Device Path Join (devpathjoin) Record.

  9. In the Base Message field, select (...) and select the devicerollup record.
