Note: This functionality has been deprecated and will be removed in a future release. For an alternative, refer to Use regular expressions (RegEx) with a plugin.
Inline checking means that the system will display an error when an Administrator enters invalid input into an Advanced Database Editor (ADE) form. Using the ValidationRegEx attribute in the Field element, you can define a regular expression (RegEx) constraint that either restricts what can be entered or identifies which values are invalid.
The name column in the farms table does not allow the following characters:
-
'
-
"
-
@
-
.
-
;
-
[
-
]
-
:
-
*
-
(

)
<Field
Name="name"
.
.
ValidationRegEx="[^'@". ;,\[\]\(\)%:|\*]*"
DisplayWidthToUse="Maximum">
</Field>
If you enter any of the above characters in the Name field in ADE, the system immediately displays an error icon. Hovering the mouse pointer over the triangle displays the text (tooltip) contained in the RegEx's Description attribute. When you correct the error, the system removes the icon.
