The Arbitration tab allows you to modify the timeouts and port number related to a service type.

The table below defines all the fields on the Arbitration tab in the Service Type Properties dialog box.

Fields

Description

Port Number

The TCP/IP port that arbitration uses to communicate between the Hot and Standby services.

Secondary Hot Delay(s)

The period of time that the secondary computer will wait before going Hot. This helps to avoid duels.

Script Delay on Assert(s)

The period to wait after running the assert script. This helps to avoid duels.

Script Timeout

The maximum amount of time a script is allowed to take.

Switch Timeout

During a failover, the Switch Timeout is the maximum amount of time the computer that is stepping down will wait for the partner computer to go Hot. If the partner does not go Hot within this timeout, the computer stepping down will re-assert itself as Hot.

Bind Timeout

The total amount of time to allow the arbitrator software to bind to the TCP/IP port during startup.

Partner Timeout

The amount of time to allow after receiving the last heartbeat from the partner before declaring it dead.

Replication Wait Timeout

The amount of time during a failover to allow for the last remaining replication changes to be delivered from the Hot box that will soon be replaced by the Standby.
