Override a Setpoint Ramping operation

Follow this procedure to override the values currently in use for a running Setpoint Ramping operation.

As mentioned above in Change the state of a device through Setpoint Ramping, if you or another Controller place(s) a control inhibit tag on an analog point that is currently undergoing a Setpoint Ramping operation, the system stops the operation before processing the next step and cancels all planned Setpoint Ramping commands. However, if, some time after the creation of the control inhibit tag but before the system's cancelling of the Setpoint Ramping operation, you attempt to override the values currently in use for a running Setpoint Ramping operation, the system:

  • Generates an error message stating that the Setpoint Ramping operation (the override) cannot start until the tag is cleared, and then

  • Immediately stops the setpoint Ramping operation and cancels all planned Setpoint Ramping commands.

To override a Setpoint Ramping operation

  1. Do one of the following:

    • On the point's Analog Control dialog box, select Setpoint Ramping.

    • On the Setpoint Ramping Summary window, select the row header of the Setpoint Ramping operation whose values you want to override.

The Setpoint Ramping dialog box opens.

  2. Change one or more of the values in the available fields:

    • Final Value

    • Ramp Duration (min)

    • Number of steps

  3. Select Validate to check the validity of all entered values.

Using the Ramp Duration (min) and Number of steps values, the application calculates the interval between each setpoint command.

Using the Current Setpoint, Final Value, and Number of steps values, the application calculates the setpoint value for each step.

All values that pass the validation checks appear in a green font color.

If any value fails a validation check, the system generates an error message and changes the offending value's font color from black to red.

Only when all values pass the validation checks does the application allow you to proceed with the Setpoint Ramping command.

  4. Select Override Ramp.

  5. When prompted on whether or not you want to override the current ramp operation, select Yes.

    The following occurs:

    • The system stops the Setpoint Ramping operation and starts over using the overridden values.

    • The text "RAMPING ACTIVE" appears on the dialog box.

    • The Override Ramp button becomes unavailable.

    • On the Setpoint Ramping Summary window, the Current Step for the operation displays "1".

  6. Select Dismiss.
