Understanding a single Historical scenario

In a single Historical scenario, several systems collect Historical information into a unique Microsoft SQL Server instance. This configuration reduces the number of Historical services needed when multiple RealTime services are present at a site.
In a typical installation, two (or more) sets of RealTime Server pairs are set up in different production systems (for example, PDC1, PDC2) and a single clustered Historical Server pair resides in a Primary Scale-Out system (for example, PDC). The RealTime services are intended to feed data (for example, Collect, Events) to the Microsoft SQL Server instance installed in the Primary Scale-Out system.
The Historical service in the Primary Scale-Out system is known as the principal, while the Historical services installed in the other systems are considered subordinate services.
The Archive service must only be installed in the Primary Scale-Out system.
