AVEVA Enterprise SCADA

Understanding localization

The AVEVA Enterprise SCADA Historical installation uses the Transact-Microsoft SQL stored procedure sp_addmessage as a mechanism to store user-defined messages in the Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine instance. This mechanism is used to localize the following items:

  • Error messages

  • Texts for Operational Activity Event messages

  • Columns of some table views

All of the messages defined in an instance of Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine, along with the corresponding message IDs, can be viewed in the sys.messages catalog view, as shown in the following example:

Stored procedures can use the Transact-Microsoft SQL FormatMessage method to construct localized messages from an existing message stored in the sys.messages catalog view, using the ID of the message stored in the sys.messages database.

If you need to add new messages, or need to replace one of the existing messages, refer to the Microsoft SQL Server documentation on the following topics: sys.messages database, sp_addmessage, and FormatMessage.
