By means of the Advanced Database Editor (ADE) icon on a control dialog box, Controllers can open the ADE form for a specific record in the RealTime database (RTDB). Although the ADE icon does not appear by default on the control dialog box in easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS), you can easily add it as per the instructions below.

For complete information on using the eXtended Editor (XE) Workbench, refer to the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA HMI Display Builder documentation.

To add the ADE icon to a control dialog box

  1. Open XE.

  2. In the XE Workbench, open the display to which you want to add the ADE icon.

    The Status Control dialog box (CNTL_STATUS.XEM file) is used as an example.

  3. Add a button to the display and name it btnADE.

  4. Assign the ADE icon to the newly added button.

  5. Ensure the new button is the same size as the other existing buttons.

  6. On the Properties panel, select the VB icon.

  7. Select (...) to the right of the Click field.

    The source code page opens.

    XE automatically adds the following code to the Click action for the btnADE button:

    Public Sub btnADE_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnADE.Click

    Try

    ' Insert user code here.

    ' End user code here.

    Catch ex As Exception

    DNALog.WriteLog(DNALog.LogLevel.Always, "Event handler btnADE.Click on display " + Model.InstanceName + " failed: " + ex.Message)

    End Try

    End Sub

  8. Insert the following code between the Insert user code here and End user code here section:

    Dim environment As IDNAEnvironment

    Dim adeDir As String = ""

    Dim args As String = ""

    Dim sysName As String = ""

    environment = DNAEnvironmentAdapter.Instance

    ' Get the %DNAInstallRoot% Path

    adeDir = environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("DNAInstallRoot") + "\ADE\bin\ADE.exe"

    ' Get the system name

    sysName = environment.SystemName

    ' Arguments = /DALConfig:<System Name>\control_room /Row:<table name>.<point name>.name

    args = "/DALconfig:" + sysName + "\control_room /Row:" + tableName + "." + pointName + ".name"

    ' Launch the ADE form

    System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(adeDir, args)

    The final code should look as follows:

    Public Sub btnADE_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnADE.Click

    Try

    ' Insert user code here.

    Dim environment As IDNAEnvironment

    Dim adeDir As String = ""

    Dim args As String = ""

    Dim sysName As String = ""

    environment = DNAEnvironmentAdapter.Instance

    ' Get the %DNAInstallRoot% Path

    adeDir = environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("DNAInstallRoot") + "\ADE\bin\ADE.exe"

    ' Get the system name

    sysName = environment.SystemName

    ' Arguments = /DALConfig:<System Name>\control_room /Row:<table name>.<point name>.name

    args = "/DALconfig:" + sysName + "\control_room /Row:" + tableName + "." + pointName + ".name"

    ' Launch the ADE form

    System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(adeDir, args)

    ' End user code here.

    Catch ex As Exception

    DNALog.WriteLog(DNALog.LogLevel.Always, "Event handler btnADE.Click on display " + Model.InstanceName + " failed: " + ex.Message)

    End Try

    End Sub

  9. In the Workbench, select Build > Compile.

    When the Compiler completes its task, the ADE icon appears on the control dialog box

    The Controller can now select the ADE icon to open the ADE Row Edit dialog box associated with the record.

    Important: The DALConfig attribute must use a Data Access Library (DAL) <System> <Subfolder> that will log on to the system using Single Sign On (SSO) authentication. Otherwise, the system will generate an error message in regards to the form.
