State alarm reduction setting

Note: For information on overriding default configuration settings, refer to Modify configuration settings.

The RealTime_StateAlarmInhibit.json file contains the STATE_ALARM_REDUCTION key, which, by default, is set to false.

Important: In order to avoid the situation where Controllers may fail to observe detected alarm conditions, AVEVA strongly recommends setting this value to true.

Default State Inhibit Behavior (STATE_ALARM_REDUCTION value is false)

  • When a point transitions from an uninhibited alarm state to an inhibited alarm state, the system removes the previous alarm. This inhibit behavior could result in situations where the system removes alarms before a Controller sees them.

  • When a point in a normal state with a return to normal alarm present transitions to an inhibited state, the system does not remove the existing return to normal alarm.

Alternate State Inhibit Behavior (STATE_ALARM_REDUCTION value is true)

  • When a point in an uninhibited alarm state where the alarm is unacknowledged transitions to an inhibited alarm state, the system generates a new flashing alarm for the inhibited state. The new alarm alerts the Controller to the fact that that the point was previously unacknowledged.

  • When a point in an uninhibited alarm state where the alarm is acknowledged transitions to an inhibited alarm state, the system generates a new, non-flashing alarm for the inhibited state. The new alarm preserves the state transition information for the Controller, and prevents a flashing alarm from distracting him/her.

  • When a point in a normal state with a return to normal alarm present transitions to an inhibited state, the system does not remove the existing return to normal alarm.

  • When a point transitions from a normal state with no alarm to an inhibited state, the system does not generate an alarm.

To enable the alternate state inhibit behavior

  1. In the %DNADataRoot%\RealTime\config\Settings directory, either create or open the RealTime_StateAlarmInhibit.json file.

  2. Change the value of "STATE_ALARM_REDUCTION" to true.

    {

    "RealTime": {

    "INTERGRATE_STATE_ALARMINHIBIT": true,

    "STATE_ALARM_REDUCTION": false

    }

    }

  3. Save the file.

  4. Restart the RealTime service.
