Administrators can configure Absolute Value Alarm Checking for an analog, a rate, or a flowTotalConfig point via the appropriate tab in the point's Row Edit dialog box.
Note: In the following procedure, an analog point is used as an example. The procedure is similar for configuring rate records but slightly different for flowTotalConfig points (as described in the note in step 1). The analog Row Edit dialog box is opened through the analog table listing in the Advanced Database Editor (ADE). For more information on the analog table, refer to RealTime tables.
To configure absolute value alarm checking
-
Navigate to the Alarming tab in the analog Row Edit dialog box.
Note: For flowTotalConfig points, navigate to the appropriate Calc. Element [0-3] tab in the flowTotalConfig Row Edit dialog box.

-
Select Use absolute value for level alarming to enable this application.
Notes: The following configuration fields are affected by this application:
- Any alarm limit (HiHi, Hi, Lo, LoLo, User Hi, and User Lo) for analog, rate, and flowTotalConfig points. Refer to Separate High-Low Alarms and User Configurable Alarm Limits for more information.
- Input Value Scaling limits (Minimum [EGU], Maximum [EGU], Minimum [raw], and Maximum [raw]) for analog and rate points. Refer to RealTime tables. for more information.
- Output Value Scaling limits (Minimum [EGU], Maximum [EGU], Minimum [raw], and Maximum [raw]) for analog points. Refer to RealTime tables for more information.
- Input High and Low Cutoff, and Replacement values for analog and rate points. Refer to Analog Cutoff for more information.
Alarm limits, and Input High and Low Cutoff values must be greater than zero to be used with this application. Any value that is less than zero will be flagged with an error.
If the Input Value Scaling for analog and rate points or Output Value Scaling for analogs is configured, the values must be set with the Minimum and Maximum as the same value but with opposite signs. For example, if Maximum (Raw) is set to 100, then Minimum (Raw) must be set to -100. If Maximum (EGU) is set to 50, then Minimum (EGU) must be set to -50.
