AVEVA Enterprise SCADA

Analog Row Edit: Input tab

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 6 minute read

The Input tab in the analog Row Edit dialog box is used to configure analog inputs. This tab allows you to define the details of an input such as the data type, value limits, filter information, and if the values are converted into Engineering Units (EGUs).

When configuring manually entered analog points, you must select the Has Input checkbox on the dialog box to allow programmed or manual setting of the record’s current value field, otherwise the fields are grayed out.

The following table details the items on the Input Tab of the analog Row Edit dialog box

Items

Description

Has Input

Select to allow the setting of the analog point’s current value field. Use the dropdown menu to select the type of information that is provided by the outstation.

Input Type

Acquired analog data comes in a data format that is dependent on the device and the protocol. This field contains the data type to use when uploading data from the device into the analog record. Refer to the remote or protocol documentation for information on supported analog input data types, and how to configure them. AVEVA Enterprise SCADA supports the following data types for storing analog data:

  • float

  • unsign 16 int

  • signed 16 int

  • unsign 32 int

  • signed 32 int

Input Coordinates

Enter the coordinates where the data is mapped within the remote. This mapping depends on the protocol used.

Some protocols use registers to allocate data in remote memory, others use a definition of the point or file number for access. Representative data mappings and point configuration are described for various protocols in RealTime. Refer to your specific remote or protocol documentation for a definition of the data mappings and to determine the remote’s input/output data location in memory.

Quality Bit

This field is used to configure a quality bit number for the point, with 0 indicating no quality bit checking, and 1–15 indicating the specific quality bit.

For further information, refer to the RealTime Controller documentation.

Poll Group

A text string that may consist of multiple comma-separated values to define the frequency poll groups to which the point belongs.

  • For further information, refer to volume 2 of the RealTime Administrator documentation.

Use Device Based Questionable DQ

Select to alert downstream krunch processes that, when said processes krunch the current value of the point, freshness should be based on the data quality from the field.

RTU History

This field is used in configuring the retrieval of an analog point's history from a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).

For further information, refer to volume 2 of the RealTime Administrator documentation.

Note: This field is used in configuring retrieval of an analog point's history from a RTU.

Convert raw to EGU

Select to convert the inputs from this point to EGUs.

An analog field device acquires its data as a raw instrument electrical value and transfers the value to its remote. At the remote, this value is changed into a digital value based on the communication protocol used. For example, in a certain protocol, the signal from a pressure controller that starts as an amperage between 4 and 20 mA is changed to a string of bits that represents a number between -4096 and +4095.

Usually this raw number needs to be converted to EGUs (for example, barrels per hour). Sometimes the remote receives the value in EGUs, in which case no conversion is necessary. Refer to your remote’s documentation to see if this is the case for your remotes.

Minimum (raw)

Enter the instrument’s lower raw operating limit.

The raw instrument range is the expected minimum and maximum raw values received from the remote, before applying any configured EGU scaling in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA. Alarms can be generated when raw values fall outside of this range (see Instrument Fail Check on the Alarming tab).

Maximum (raw)

Enter the instrument’s upper raw operating limit.

The raw instrument range is the expected minimum and maximum raw values received from the remote, before applying any configured EGU scaling in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA. Alarms can be generated when raw values fall outside of this range (see Instrument Fail Check on the Alarming tab).

Minimum (EGU)

Enter the lowest measurable value of the instrument in EGUs.

For example, if a temperature instrument is rated as measuring between -40 °C and 160 °C, set the Minimum (EGU) to -40 and set the Maximum (EGU) to 160.

The EGU values are used in EGU conversion as well as in the Analog Control dialog box (refer to the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA HMI Controller documentation).

Maximum (EGU)

Enter the highest measurable value of the instrument in EGUs.

Exception Deadband

Enter the amount by which an acquired value must change before the value is sent to the host.

This field provides a report by exception method of acquiring data rather than acquiring data with every Omnicomm scan. Analog data changes constantly with the fluctuations in process conditions. Instead of constant updates of tiny changes, which congest the lines, the data is transferred to the host only when a specified deadband region has been exceeded. This method can only be used if the remotes support analog reporting by exception. Since the decision of whether or not to upload the data is made by the remote, the deadband value is downloaded to the remote in raw units. The exception deadband indicates the amount by which an acquired value must change before the value is sent to the host. For example, a deadband value of 10 means that only values at least 10 raw counts higher or lower than the last value sent to the host are transferred.

Cutoff

This section is used to set low or high cutoff values for analog points, with the aim of avoiding false readings from remotes. If the host receives a value that is below or above the low or high cutoff value, respectively, it discards the value and uses the Administrator-defined "replacement" value.

Note: The Low Cutoff Limit and High Cutoff Limit values must be greater than the Minimum (EGU) value, and less than the Maximum (EGU) value, respectively.

For further information, refer to Analog Cutoff.

Apply Linear Filter

Select to apply a filter to the telemetry/calculated values to smooth out brief fluctuations. The equation for the filter is:

Vfilter = (Vcurrent * K) + [Vprevious * (1-K)]

Where:

  • Vfilter = is the filtered value.

  • Vcurrent = is the current unfiltered value.

  • Vprevious = is the filtered value from the previous Omnicomm scan.

  • K = is the Filter Constant.

Number of Averaged Samples

Enter the number of readings that the Jitter Smoothing application should use in calculating the arithmetic mean.

For further information, refer to Jitter Smoothing.

Processing Deadband Enable

Select to associate the point with a processing deadband.

For further information, refer to Processing Deadband enhancement.

Processing Deadband

Enter the processing deadband that the system uses to determine whether or not it should process a new value.

For further information, refer to Processing Deadband enhancement.

Trend Indicator Enable

Select to enable the Trend Indicator for the analog point.

Note: When the Trend Indicator is enabled for a point, the trend indicator value is set to 0. The current value for the Trend Indicator is stored in the TrendIndicator.Value field of the analog record.

For more information about how this value is calculated, refer to Trend Indicator.

High Speed Coefficient

Enter the value for the high speed coefficient. This is typically a float number between 0 and 1.

For more information about how this value is used in the calculation of the trend indicator value, refer to Trend Indicator.

Low Speed Coefficient

Enter the value for the low speed coefficient. This is typically a float number between 0 and 1.

For more information about how this value is used in the calculation of the trend indicator value, refer to Trend Indicator.

Scaling Factor

Enter the value for the desired scaling factor to be applied to the trend indicator value.

For more information about how this value is used in the calculation of the trend indicator value, refer to Trend Indicator.

Trend Indicator Image Set

Enter or select the name of the trendIndicatorImageSet record used to specify the collection of parameters for which an image will be presented as the trend indicator for this point.
