Launch a debugger from the Code Editor

The Application Calculation Engine (ACE) Editor provides a menu option for launching a debugger based on the type of file loaded into the Editor panel.

The ACE Editor will not attach the debugger to any process. This must be done manually using whatever interface is provided by the chosen debugger. By default, the Editor will simply launch Visual Studio, but it can be customized to use alternative debuggers on a per-type basis. For instance, Visual Basic (VB) could use Visual Studio for debugging while C# used something else.

The type of debugger launched for a file type can be specified in the language manager XML configuration files, which is located in the following directory: %DNAInstallRoot%\ADE\config\EditorTypes. If you want to edit the file, you need to copy the file over to the same subdirectory within %DNADataRoot% and modify it there.

An example is shown below where a path to a Visual Studio debugger is provided; this path may or may not work on your system.

Note: The debugger is identified by the tag DebuggerPath, and it is defined in the EditorDefinition section of the file.

<EditorDefinition>

<DebuggerPath>C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe</DebuggerPath>

</EditorDefinition>

To launch the debugger from the Code Editor
