Export data to XML

Use Export data to XML to export the current contents of a folder node into an XML data file.

About this task

To create a new object, copy an existing object element and then modify it. Changing a name value will not rename an object if the data is later imported; changing a name will result in the creation of a new object with a new name.

Unassigned values will be displayed as (null). To avoid changing an existing value, the property can be left as it is or the property element removed. In order to force a property to an unassigned value, set its value to (null).

The member property can contain a semicolon separated list of multiple user or group names. The exported file will show the users and groups using distinguished names, rather than their common name as shown using the Network Management Console (NMC). This is done as the distinguished name uniquely identifying an object. When adding a new member, the common name is used if the object uniquely exists within the Private OASyS DNA Groups, Private OASyS DNA Users, Windows Groups, or Windows Users. The members must have a semicolon between them, but can also have spaces and newlines on either side of the semicolon.

To export data to an XML file

  1. Select Export data to XML in the left pane of the NMC Context Menu.

  2. Select the directory and enter the file name for the XML file.

  3. Select Save.

What to do next

The exported XML file can be viewed and modified using a text editor or XML editor. The XML schema is based on the schema of the exported folder. The element representing an object will start and end with the text oasysdna. Each element will contain attributes and sub-elements in order to fully define the object.
